Guelph ON, April 25, 2013– At a recent Ontario Goat (OG) Board of Directors meeting, Anton Slingerland, a dairy goat farmer, was elected to his first term as President. Anton and his wife Tammy, together with their children, operate dairy goat farm near Norwich.
“I am excited about the year ahead and am privileged to have the opportunity to serve as Ontario Goat’s President,” said Slingerland.
Also joining the executive is Ian Mayberry, a dairy goat farmer from Ingersoll who was elected First Vice President and Eldon Bowman, a dairy goat farmer from Gorrie, elected Second Vice President.
“I look forward to working with Ian and Eldon on the executive as we continue to work on bringing the Ontario goat industry together with a united voice,” stated Slingerland. “I am encouraged by all the positive feedback we have been receiving from producers and industry partners alike and I think 2013 is going to be a great year for the Ontario goat industry,” he added.
At the recent Annual General Meeting (AGM), three new Directors were elected from their peers to the OG Board: Cindy Hope, a dairy goat farmer and on ‐ farm dairy processor from Keene; Ed Donkers, a dairy goat farmer from Shedden; and Greg Haskett, also a dairy goat farmer from Bright. Both Hope and Donkers had previously served on the OG Board of Directors through appointments to fill interim vacancies.
OG also paid tribute to its retiring President Director, Tobin Schlegel, at the recent AGM.
“We are definitely sad to see Tobin step down from the board but we also know Tobin is a strong believer in what OG is doing for the industry. His contributions to the Ontario goat industry are monumental and he helped to build the foundation of what we are working from today,” stated Slingerland. “Thank you just does not seem like enough,” he added.
