10:00 a.m. | The key to successful kid rearing – Kathleen Shore, New-Life Mills Successful kid rearing can make the difference between a profitable operation or not. Kids are the next generation of milkers; they need to get off to the best start possible. Kathleen will discuss the key factors to successful kid management, how to improve mortality and how this impacts economics on your farm. |
11:00 a.m. | Goat Cost of Production — Erin MacDuff, Ontario Goat Recently, Ontario Goat completed the first phase of a multi-year cost of production study. Erin will review the first phase and what the numbers mean to Ontario’s goat producers. |
11:30 a.m. | Assessing goat welfare — Mike Draper, OMAFRA As a goat producer, you have a responsibility to ensure all your goats are properly managed on your operation. Mike will review the animal care standards for goats and how you can evaluate the standards on your farm. In addition to assessing welfare, Mike will review the criteria goat producers should be evaluating before culling goats. |

1:00 p.m. | How artificial insemination (AI) influences productivity on your farm — Paul Stewart, EastGen As goat producers you are always looking for ways to improve productivity on your farm. Whether as a dairy or meat producer, filling year round demand can be challenging. Paul will discuss ways to implement AI into your operation followed by a presentation from a producer who has implemented AI successfully into their operation. |
2:00 p.m. | Ontario Goat (OG) next steps and available resources — Kendra Keels, Ontario Goat OG has been developing new producer resources to help improve productivity and on-farm welfare. Kendra will review the new resources and discuss next steps moving forward. |
