New director profile – Cindy Hope

Ontario Goat new director profile – Cindy Hope

Cindy Hope farms with her husband Kevin and their nine-year old daughter Mackenzie in Keene, about 10 minutes east of Peterborough. They have a dairy goat herd of 350, as well as 50 meat goats, at Cross Wind Farms. The Hopes also have an on-farm dairy processing plant that produces pasteurized bottle milk, yogurt, two varieties of feta cheese and 13 varieties of chèvre. Their small on-farm store features all of their own products, including soap, meat and dairy products, as well as local items from neighbouring farms.

Why did you decide to become a director on the Ontario Goat board?

For me, joining the board is an opportunity to contribute to an organization that has been alongside us from day one.  Being dedicated to the industry, it’s a great opportunity to work with fellow producers and to assist Ontario Goat on any projects that may arise that will help us all grow and move forward.

What are you looking forward to as a director? What do you see as the biggest challenge and biggest opportunity facing the goat sector at the moment?

Becoming a director on the board in a time of transition is exciting.  It’s exciting because I see the biggest issues and challenges facing the goat sector as also our biggest opportunity – to build a united voice.

It is my belief that as our sector is demonstrating growth, it also needs a single voice that can take us all to the next level.  It is my hope that as a director I can contribute to this industry change along with assisting the executive team with the support they may need.
